On Thursday 6 August we opened the gates at Meadow Flat for our 2026 Open Day. Thank you to everyone who made the trip, walked the pens, sat in on the sessions and asked the good questions. Days like that are why we do this.
For those who couldn't make it, the key takeaway for the day was consistency. Our guest speakers kept coming back to it, from data and genetics to nutrition and animal health.
A consistent line-up.
Brad Hine from Angus Australia gave his read on this year's draft.
You can't get that consistency overnight. That takes a long time, and it's pretty hard. I've had a good walk to find the bull that shouldn't be here. I couldn't find one. They're a very consistent line-up of bulls. Congratulations, Annie.

Who spoke, and what they covered.
- Brad Hine, Angus Australia - the Angus Tech workshop and a live catalogue search demonstration, showing how to search the Angus database properly and find the bulls that suit your operation.
- Hannah Schulz, EmergeAg - a practical look at nutrition, and what a bull needs coming into a spring joining to work for you in his first season and beyond.
- Aden Macdougall and Lachie Ayoub, Zoetis - genetics and animal health, and what DNA testing and genomic profiling actually tell you when you're standing in front of a bull.
- Fee May, Hamlet & Fields - marketing, and how a breeding operation builds a name that carries between sales.
- Charlie Blomfield, Boridgeree Farming - Agitating the Status Quo, a hard look at the assumptions the industry keeps repeating and building a strong public voice for agriculture.
- Annie Scott, Karoo Angus, with Brad Hine - structural assessment in the yards, covering feet, legs and overall structure, and why it matters over a bull's working life. Read how to read a bull in the yards.
Thank you.
Thanks also to Ben Emms and the Elders Emms Mooney team, who were on the ground all day with catalogues and answers, to Hannah, Hugh and the EmergeAg team for running the BBQ lunch, and to Tash for looking after morning tea. The day doesn't happen without people like this, and we're grateful.
